About Insights

About Shapiro Thomas Insights.

Brief, selective reporting on New York legal developments and public decisions, grounded in the underlying record.

Shapiro Thomas Insights covers legal developments, municipal action, and public decisions that may be useful to businesses, public entities, property owners, and individuals in New York.

We begin with primary sources

For local matters, that usually means an official agenda, meeting packet, minutes, resolution, or written decision. For court and agency developments, it means the published opinion, statute, regulation, or agency notice. Each article links to the supporting records when they are available online.

We describe the record precisely

An agenda shows what was scheduled; it does not establish what a board decided. Draft documents are identified as drafts. Minutes, resolutions, and written decisions are described according to their stated status. When the result is not yet clear, the article says what remains pending.

We publish selectively

Our focus is on substantial proposals, meaningful environmental or procedural steps, material municipal action, and court decisions with practical significance. Routine applications generally do not warrant separate coverage. Every article is reviewed by a Shapiro Thomas PLLC attorney before publication and includes the date on which its information was checked.
