Lansingburgh Gateway returns to Troy Planning Board.

The current proposal would replace the former Price Chopper site with 205 workforce-housing units, commercial space, and a publicly accessible Hudson River path.

Lansingburgh Gateway appeared as old business on the City of Troy Planning Board's August 18, 2026 agenda. The proposal concerns 6.27 acres along the Hudson River at the former Price Chopper site.

Housing, commercial space, and river access

The agenda describes two three-story buildings and one four-story building containing 205 workforce-housing units and approximately 11,000 square feet of commercial space. The proposal also includes infrastructure work and a publicly accessible multi-use path along the river.

That combination makes the application significant beyond the number of housing units. It would reuse a vacant commercial site, introduce a large residential component, retain commercial space, and create a new public connection to the waterfront.

A Type I action under SEQRA

The application is before the Planning Board for site-plan and lot-line-adjustment review. Troy's agenda identifies the environmental review as a Type I action under the State Environmental Quality Review Act. That classification does not determine the outcome; it identifies the project for Type I treatment and coordinated review.

The August agenda lists the matter as old business. Earlier reporting by the Times Union described a 200-unit version of the proposal presented to residents in May and reported further community discussion in late July. The official August agenda now lists 205 units, underscoring that the plan has continued to develop during review.

What remains unresolved

The agenda states that the Planning Board would meet to act on listed requests, but an agenda is not a record of the action ultimately taken. As of August 20, the official Agenda Center page reviewed for this article did not include posted minutes or a written determination for the August 18 meeting.

The present record therefore establishes the proposal and the matters before the Board, not a final approval. The next important documents will be the Board's minutes, any SEQRA determination, and any resolution or site-plan approval setting out conditions.
